Welcome to Badgers

I am delighted to introduce myself as Miss MacMillan, your child’s Year 5 class teacher for this school year. Working alongside me are Mrs Young (Class TA, Monday to Wednesday) and Mrs O’Riordan (Class TA, Thursday and Friday).

We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with your children and to be a part of their journey in learning and growth.

This year, we have an exciting curriculum planned that will challenge the children academically, while also fostering their creativity and critical thinking skills.

Key Information

PE Days

Badgers have PE on Thursday and Friday. Please ensure the children come to school wearing their PE kits. Please also remember to take earrings out on these days.

Forest School 

The children will participate in Forest School in Terms 1, 3 and 5. Please ensure they are sent in with suitable clothing for all types of weather.

Spellings 

The children will be placed in spelling groups based on their ability and will receive their spellings every Monday, with a test scheduled for Wednesday. They are welcome to take their spelling books home for additional practice, but please ensure they bring them back to school every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, as we will be using them in class. If you would like a copy of your child’s termly spelling list, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Reading 

We actively encourage all children to read both inside and outside of the classroom, as regular reading is key to developing strong literacy skills. We ask that you support this by encouraging your child to read at least three times a week and to record each reading session on our online reading record (https://learningwithparents.com/). This practice helps us monitor their progress and celebrate their achievements in reading.

Maths

In KS2, your children will be furthering their mathematic knowledge through their times tables. To support this, each child has an account on Times Tables Rock Stars, an engaging online platform that helps them practice and learn.

We believe that a strong partnership between home and school is key to a successful year, so I will do my best to keep you informed about your child’s progress and any upcoming events or activities.
