Foxes
Welcome to Foxes
I am delighted to introduce myself as Miss Young, your child’s Year 4 class teacher for this school year. I am excited to have the opportunity to work with your children and to be a part of their journey in learning and growth.
The adults in the class this year are: Miss Young (Class teacher), Mrs Burgess (Class TA), Mrs O'Riordan (Class TA), Mrs Gilbert (1:1) and Mrs Ball (1:1).
This year, we have an exciting curriculum planned, designed to challenge the children academically while encouraging their creativity, curiosity and critical thinking skills.
Throughout the year, we will explore a range of fascinating topics. In Science, we will investigate electricity and states of matter, while in History we will travel back in time to learn about the Romans and Vikings. In Geography, we will discover more about rivers and rainforests, developing our understanding of the world around us.
We are looking forward to a year full of exciting learning, exploration and discovery!
Please find our class timetable below.

Spellings
The children will be placed in spelling groups based on their ability and will receive their spellings every Monday, with a test scheduled for Wednesday. They are welcome to take their spelling books home for additional practice, but please ensure they bring them back to school every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, as we will be using them in class. If you would like a copy of your child’s termly spelling list, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Reading
We actively encourage all children to read both inside and outside of the classroom, as regular reading is key to developing strong literacy skills. We ask that you support this by encouraging your child to read at least three times a week and to record each reading session on our online reading record (https://learningwithparents.com/). This practice helps us monitor their progress and celebrate their achievements in reading.
Maths
In KS2, your children will be furthering their mathematic knowledge through their times tables. To support this, each child has an account on Times Tables Rock Stars (https://ttrockstars.com/), an engaging online platform that helps them practice and learn.
I believe that a strong partnership between home and school is key to a successful year, so I will do my best to keep you informed about your child’s progress and any upcoming events or activities. If you ever have any questions or concerns, my door is always open after school or please feel free to contact me via the email –ayoung@charing.kent.sch.uk
I am really looking forward to getting to know your child and working with you to support their learning journey this year.
