Computing
Computing
Subject Leader: Emily Macmillan
At Charing Church of England Primary School, computing is a vital subject that equips our pupils with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to thrive in an increasingly digital world. Rooted in our Christian ethos of compassion, resilience, and hope, our computing curriculum empowers children to become masters of technology, using it positively, responsibly, and safely. We nurture curious, passionate, and resilient lifelong learners who use technology creatively and ethically, reflecting our vision to celebrate and develop all talents within an inclusive, supportive community inspired by Jesus’ example of love and understanding.
Key Aims
Our computing curriculum aims to:
Develop pupils’ understanding of the three core strands of computing—computer science, information technology, and digital literacy—through a knowledge-rich, carefully sequenced spiral curriculum.
Foster safe and responsible use of technology, including social media, by embedding online safety education throughout learning.
Encourage creativity and innovation by providing meaningful opportunities to apply computing skills across the wider curriculum.
Build pupils’ confidence in using technology to solve problems, communicate, and collaborate effectively.
Support all learners, including those with SEND, EAL, and from disadvantaged backgrounds, ensuring equitable access to computing knowledge and skills to diminish gaps and raise achievement.
