Woodpeckers
Welcome to Woodpeckers
A very warm welcome to Woodpeckers!
I am delighted to introduce myself as Miss Harris, your child’s Year 3 class teacher. I am so excited to be working with your children and getting to know them as they continue their journey through Key Stage 2. We have lots of exciting learning planned for this term and I am looking forward to seeing the children grow in confidence and independence.
The adults in Woodpeckers Class this year are Miss Harris (Class Teacher), Mrs Beard (Class Teaching Assistant), Ms Hattley (1:1) and Mrs Thomas (1:1).
Key Information
PE Days
Our PE days are Tuesday and Friday. Please ensure children come to school wearing their full PE kit on these days. Please also remember to remove earrings.
Reading
Reading is a key priority in Year 3 and we encourage children to read at least three times a week at home. Please record reading on our online reading record, Learning with Parents: Learning with Parents
Spellings
Children will have regular spelling practice in school, focusing on the spelling patterns and rules expected in Year 3. We encourage children to practise their spellings at home to help develop their confidence and accuracy.
Times Tables
Children will regularly practise their times tables in school and have access to Times Tables Rock Stars to support their learning at home: Times Tables Rock Stars
Our Learning
We have lots of exciting learning planned for our first term in Year 3!
In English, we will be exploring Stone Girl, Bone Girl by Laurence Anholt, learning about Mary Anning and using the story to develop our reading, vocabulary and writing skills.
In Science, we will be learning about Animals, Including Humans, with a focus on the skeleton, bones, joints and muscles.
In Maths, we will develop our understanding of place value, addition and subtraction, while beginning to strengthen our multiplication and division knowledge.
We will also be exploring a range of exciting topics across the wider curriculum, encouraging children to be curious, ask questions and become increasingly independent learners.
We believe that a strong partnership between home and school is key to a successful year.
Thank you in advance for your support with reading, times tables and your child’s learning. I am looking forward to a fantastic first term with Woodpeckers! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
