Music

Living and Learning with Faith, Friendship and Fun

Subject leader: Hannah Horsford

At Charing we believe that music is an important life skill and can bring together all areas of the curriculum. From learning songs to help us with times tables and learning French vocabulary to helping with coordination, wellbeing, speech and language development.

Music is taught to each class for an hour every week, during which time children learn the skills required to sing at pitch and in time, listen and appraise appropriate pieces of music as well as having the opportunity to compose and perform their own work. Learning the historical context of the pieces of music we study can bring topics to life.  In addition, from year 3 onwards all children are taught the skills to play a tuned instrument and if they are interested it is possible to further their learning by taking individual or group lessons.

Music brings the school together; with weekly sung worship and regular performances we can all celebrate our talents together.
