My favourite book has to be Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo. It’s a book most of the Owls class know well and love. It’s not only a book that appeals to older children but adults too. I couldn’t put it down and I have read it many times. Michael Morpurgo’s description makes you feel you are in the book and that you know the characters so well. Just as you think you know what is happening there is twist after twist that keeps you gripped into reading.
It is set in World War 1, which help enhance the children’s understanding of the topic and it makes you realise how lucky we are to living in the world that we do today. Also, it promotes children being outdoors, making friends and playing and having great fun (which reminded me of my childhood). If you are in Year 5 or 6 and haven’t read it or a parent then you should. I thoroughly recommend it!
Mr Bird

‘Once’ is a book that is filled with hope. This is my favourite book because it has been written using some powerful language and speaks volumes about the power of humanity. If you are one who enjoys reading a series, this one’s for you!

Life skills

Have a  go if you can and try your best:

How to thread a needle. please practice this ready for when we are back in school.

Ask an adult for some material. An old pillow case or shirt will do.

Double the material and draw a circle. You could use a cup or bowl as a template.

Place the two pieces of material together how you have been shown and practice the running stitch around the circle. (Use pins if you have them to keep the material tight and even)

You can do more than 1 row.

Turn the circle as you go for an even line.

Topic

Following on from last weeks learning on the timeline of events for WW2, research a set of pictures that represent key moments during the war. Keep them small enough to stick on your timeline when we are back in school. Write a few sentences in your book with any information you have on each photo – ensure this information is factual.

Reading comprehension

Please decide which reading comprehension you want to do. If you decide to do the shorter comprehension you will find there are 2, please do one today and one tomorrow. For the longer comprehension about a Shark attack, I’ve also attached the answers. Please mark it after you’ve completed it.
